She has rich experience in commercial searches, such as invalidity search and novelty search. She also serves as a mentor and trainer for new examiners.
Before joining IPOS International, she held the position of Senior Algorithm Engineer at Huawei Technologies and served as a Research Scientist at the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Japan. She was actively involved in IEEE Standardization activities in 802.11, 802.15, and 802.16 working groups and task groups, and she is an inventor of four JP patents. Additionally, she served as an advisor to the IEEE Library Advisory Council from 2016-2017 and as the Chairperson of IEEE Women in Engineering Singapore from 2017 to 2018. Furthermore, she has contributed as a session chair for several renowned conferences in past years.
She holds a B.E. (Hons.) degree in electrical and communications engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, China; a Ph.D. degree in communications engineering from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; and a master degree on IP and Innovation Management (IP Management) from Singapore University of Social Science.

DR TANNY LAI
Senior Patent Examiner, Patent Search, Examination & Analytics at IPOS InternationalTanny joined IPOS in September 2014 as a Patent Examiner and became a Senior Patent Examiner in July 2023, specializing in computer implemented methods in fields such as payment architecture, artificial intelligence and business models. In particular, she has years of experience in handling patent applications with patentable subject matter issues. Tanny also conducts regular reviews of examiner reports for purposes of alignment of quality standards. In addition, she is a mentor and trainer for new examiners in IPOS. On another note, Tanny was part of the team in the roll out of the “Acting as an Expert Witness” course conducted by IP Academy in 2021, designed to provide technical experts with basic knowledge on IP disputes.
Tanny had received the A*STAR Graduate Scholarship Award in 2007 and pursued a PhD in National University of Singapore from July 2007 - April 2012, her work largely focused on the use of mathematical and computational methods to study phenomena in biology. She also completed the Specialist Certificate in Intangible Asset Management course conducted by IP Academy in 2020.
