The Tripartite Committee on Workplace Fairness released its final recommendations on legislating Workplace Fairness. This complex first stab at a first-of-its-kind anti-discrimination law in Singapore is a milestone by the tripartite partners giving greater protection for workers (including PMEs) to ensure a fair and level playing field, and build inclusive and progressive workplaces in Singapore. The legislation will serve as a deterrent to would-be perpetrators and provide a protected, economical, and accessible way to report and take action against discrimination in the workplace.
As in-house legal, we are aware of how this must be one of the trickiest pieces of legislation to both draft as well as implement, and yet steer clear of some of the challenges. As a country that strives to stay enlightened and always do better in workplace relations, Singapore continues to evolve and manage that delicate balance between employers and employees, while still protecting all fairly, as the final recommendations on Workplace Fairness.
